Description

Gypfor AQUA Tapered Edge Plasterboard (Moisture Resistant) - 12.5mm 8x4ft

Enhanced Protection for Humid Environments

Gypfor AQUA Plasterboard is a specialized plasterboard engineered to provide enhanced moisture and mould resistance in interior areas prone to humidity, such as bathrooms, kitchens, laundries, and other service rooms. Distinguished by its green paper facing, this board features a specially formulated gypsum core that significantly reduces water absorption, offering a more durable and reliable solution than standard plasterboard in damp conditions.

Features

  • Moisture-Resistant Gypsum Core: The core is composed of a non-combustible gypsum, treated with special additives during manufacturing to reduce water absorption and provide resistance to moisture and mould growth. This is its defining characteristic.
  • Green Paper Facing: The board is typically coated with a distinctive green paper on both sides. This colour serves as a visual identifier for moisture-resistant plasterboard, ensuring correct product selection on site. The surface is ready for various decorative finishes (e.g., paint, wallpaper, or even ceramic tiling) after appropriate preparation.
  • Non-Combustible Gypsum Core: The gypsum core is inherently non-combustible, contributing to the fire safety performance of the building structure.
  • Versatile Edge Finishes: Available with both:
    • Tapered Edge (TE): The most common option, designed for seamless jointing using tapes and jointing compounds, creating a smooth and invisible finish.
    • Square Edge (SE): May also be available for applications where the board is skimmed over or where specific jointing methods are used.
  • Thermal Conductivity: Typically offers a thermal conductivity (Lambda, λ) value of 0.25 W/m.K, contributing to the overall thermal performance of walls and ceilings.
  • Easy to Cut and Install: Can be easily cut to size using a plasterboard knife and snapped, allowing for efficient and adaptable installation. It can be mechanically fixed to timber or metal stud frames or adhered using plasterboard adhesive.
  • Suitable for Ceramic Tiling: Its enhanced moisture resistance makes it a suitable substrate for direct application of ceramic tiling in areas like bathrooms and kitchens, provided appropriate waterproofing membranes and adhesives are used in wet areas.
  • Important Usage Note: While moisture-resistant, Gypfor AQUA Plasterboard is not suitable for areas of extreme humidity or where it will be in direct, continuous contact with water (e.g., inside showers without additional waterproofing membranes). Temperatures should not consistently exceed 52°C.

Applications:

Gypfor AQUA Plasterboard is specifically designed for interior applications where moisture resistance is required, including:

  • Bathrooms and Shower Rooms (Zone 2 applications with additional waterproofing): Walls and ceilings in bathrooms, but requiring proper tanking/waterproofing systems in wet areas (e.g., within a shower enclosure).
  • Kitchens: Wall and ceiling linings where steam and humidity are common.
  • Laundries and Utility Rooms: Areas frequently exposed to moisture from appliances.
  • Public Bathrooms: In commercial buildings like hospitals, hotels, and schools, providing a more robust solution against humidity than standard plasterboard.
  • Basements and Cellars: Where moderate humidity might be present.
  • Existing Wall Linings and Partitions: Enhancing moisture resistance in renovation projects.
  • Suspended Ceilings: Used in humid internal environments.

Standards & Compliance:

Gypfor AQUA Plasterboard is manufactured to comply with stringent European standards, ensuring its quality, performance, and safety for use in construction.

  • EN 520:2004 + A1:2009 - Gypsum Plasterboards - Definitions, Requirements and Test Methods: Gypfor AQUA Plasterboard complies as a Type H1 plasterboard under this standard. The 'H1' designation specifically indicates its reduced water absorption characteristics (low water absorption, specifically ≤ 5% by mass after 2 hours immersion).
  • Reaction to Fire (Euroclass Rating): Gypfor AQUA Plasterboard consistently achieves a Reaction to Fire classification of A2-s1, d0 according to EN 13501-1.
    • A2: Indicates non-combustibility with very limited contribution to fire.
    • s1: Signifies very limited smoke production.
    • d0: Means no flaming droplets/particles.
    • Note: While inherently fire-resistant, AQUA plasterboard does not typically meet the highest specific "fire-rated" classes (e.g., Type F for enhanced fire resistance) unless explicitly stated for a particular variant or system.
